The Love Is in the Air itinerary is for couples who want to step out of the usual routine and into a getaway that feels easy, thoughtful, and a little bit special. Spend your days wandering downtown Farmville, sharing good meals, sipping local wine, choosing between spa time or a scenic walk, and returning to camp before golden hour. Back at your private dome, the pace slows down even more with a hot tub, fire pit, quiet forest, and nowhere else to be. This is a romantic getaway without the pressure of a grand production. Camp Yellow Cardinal sets the scene, you just need to bring your favorite person.
Day One
4:00 pm, Check in at Camp Yellow Cardinal
Arrive, settle into your private dome, and get comfortable for the weekend. Unpack, take a look around your site, and make yourself at home. Your king bed, private deck, fire pit, and hot tub are ready when you are.
5:30 pm, Cheers
Pour a glass of wine or mix a drink and spend a little time on the deck before dinner. Put on a record, open a snack, and let the outside world melt away.
6:30 pm, Fire up the grill
Get a campfire going, heat up the grill, and prep something delicious; not much beats cooking out as the fireflies begin to make their evening appearance.
8:30 pm, Hot tub, fire pit, and stars overhead
After dinner, make the most of the reason you came. Soak in the hot tub, make s’mores by the fire, or play a board game under the stars. Camp Yellow Cardinal gives you the space to reconnect without needing to manufacture a big romantic production.
Day Two
8:30 am, Coffee in bed
Wake up to birdsong, make coffee, and hang in bed longer than you usually would. If you want to turn breakfast into something more substantial, scrambled eggs cooked over a campfire always hit a little different in the best way.
10:00 am, Longwood Center for the Visual Arts
Ease into the day with a visit to the Longwood Center for the Visual Arts, located in the heart of downtown Farmville just one block from Longwood University. The LCVA celebrates art through rotating exhibitions, programs, activities, and community events – all free and open to the public. It is a thoughtful, low-pressure stop for couples who want to start the day with a little culture before lunch, shopping, and the rest of the afternoon.
11:00 am, Explore Farmville’s unexpected side
Spend the late morning wandering a few downtown shops that help give Farmville some serious personality. Browse antiques and unique finds at Antiques on Main, pick up a bottle of local wine at The Virginia Tasting Cellar, and pop into The Blake & Gray Company for boho-chic fashion, accessories, and gifts. Finally, make your way to Mystik Raven for crystals, apothecary herbs, and a very real chance to debate whether rose quartz counts as a relationship strategy.
12:45 pm, Lunch at Persimmon
Stop for lunch at Persimmon, a stunning restaurant and gift shop featuring homemade focaccia-bread sandwiches. Enjoy a meal that feels both easy and indulgent, and a wine list that may politely derail the rest of your afternoon.
2:00 pm, Couples massage at A Great Escape Spalon
Book a couples massage at A Great Escape Spalon, which offers a variety of massage options along with facials, sauna, and other spa services. This is the centerpiece activity for the day: relaxing, worthwhile, and exactly the kind of thing most couples say they should do more often and never schedule. Today’s the day.
4:30 pm, Back to camp before date night
Return to Camp Yellow Cardinal with time to reset before dinner. Open the bottle you picked up earlier, sit out on the deck, play a quick game, or put on a record while you get ready. The goal is to make the evening feel special without rushing through the best part of the day.
6:30 pm, Date night in Farmville
For your second night, head into Farmville and choose one of our favorite upscale dinner spots. Savour is a strong pick for elevated Southern classics, steaks, and a classy atmosphere. Taproot Tavern, located in the basement of Hotel Weyanoke, offers a polished setting with a cozy feel that works especially well for a relaxed date night.
8:30 pm, Drinks at Catbird Rooftop Terrace
If Catbird Rooftop Terrace is open for the season, enjoy a nightcap and rooftop views. Afterward, return to camp for one last hot tub soak under the stars.
Day Three
8:30 am, Coffee and a stroll
Brew a French press of complimentary Roastology coffee and take one last unhurried walk along Camp Yellow Cardinal’s trails before packing up. It is a simple way to stretch the weekend a little longer and enjoy a final quiet moment in the woods together.
10:30 am, Check out
Check out by 11 am, ideally feeling rested, reconnected, and already discussing when you can come back. Annual tradition? I think so.
Optional add-on
Before heading home, stop at Uptown Coffee Café for a casual lunch, then make a quick trip through Green Front Furniture. With 13 furniture warehouses, showrooms, and boutique spaces spread across historic downtown Farmville, it is one of the town’s signature experiences, and no Farmville visit feels quite complete without at least a little window shopping.
